He graduated high school in Chandler AZ, and currently resides in Arizona, where he was elected in 2016 and is currently serving as Pinal County’s 24th Sheriff. He lives in San Tan Valley with his wife of 28 years, as the father of five incredible young adults and grandpa to Brody and Elaine, which is his all time favorite role.

LAW ENFORCEMENT HIGH-PERFORMANCE RESUSCITATION TRAIN THE TRAINER COURSE

The law enforcement high-performance resuscitation course is an innovative training program for sworn peace officers which interweaves didactic and tactile learning phases with reality-based training scenarios designed to enhance officers’ lifesaving skills under stress. This 2-day course will be “train the trainer” style providing up-to-date science and research to ensure law enforcement is provided the highest quality resuscitation training available for incorporation in the field.

Police officers respond to rapid unknown field conditions in which they must not only react but thrive in life and death situations. Law enforcement frequently increases skill set through programs such as “force-on-force” training, stress inoculation, crisis intervention and role-playing scenarios. This innovative course provides realistic field conditions custom-created for law enforcement officers to increase out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival and improve neurological outcomes of patients. The “force-on-force” methodology of training is taken and applied to law enforcement emergency cardiac response.

This course uses evaluators and volunteer actors along with real-time feedback manikins to evaluate officer compression quality during field-based scenarios. Officers will go through didactic training and a tactile skill-building phase with instructors prior to beginning the reality-based training scenarios. The scenarios are all based on actual cardiac arrest events police officers and the instructors have responded to. Reality-based training is a dynamic process of training that allows us to emulate realistic field conditions and simulated stress to best prepare students for real-life incidents.

Students will graduate this course with the concepts, principles, building blocks, and demonstrated ability to instruct fellow law enforcement in high-performance resuscitation and reality-based training.
